Cazfest is delighted to announce that Samantha Beckinsale has agreed to become a patron of the charity. Samantha has just finished filming Katherine of Alexandria, directed by Michael Redwood, and notable as the last film role of Peter O’Toole before he died.
Cazfest was established in 2009 in memory of Caroline Johnstone, a 17 year old student who died suddenly one night as a result of an undiagnosed heart defect.
It seeks to raise awareness of heart risk in young people as well as when possible paying for heart screening of sixth form students at schools in East Herts and West Essex.
Samantha lost her father, Richard Beckinsale, star of the classic sit-com Porridge, to an undiagnosed heart defect when she was 13 years old.
“I would like to say how much I understand and appreciate the hard work put in by members of Cazfest in aiming to identify so many underlying heart defects which for many years could never been brought to light without their efforts.
Having been personally affected, I feel proud to associate myself with such a great cause, and although I cannot be there personally for the many wonderful events put on by Cazfest to raise awareness for those in our communities who might be affected, I am nevertheless humbled and honoured to have been asked to be your patron.”
Caroline’s father and Chairman of Trustees for Cazfest, Johnny said;
"We are delighted to welcome Samantha on board as a patron of the charity and for everyone who is or has been involved with Cazfest in the past it is an acknowledgement of all their efforts and hard work and we are truly grateful. We look forward to working with Samantha in the future.”
