Cazfest - Raising awareness of heart risk in young people

Heart Screening

The momentum of Cazfest continues!

Caroline (Caz) Johnstone

There have been numerous fund raising events held in support of Cazfest and there will be more to come.

These fundraising events, combined with the net proceeds from the Music Festival, allow us to finance our efforts to raise awareness of heart risk in the young. We have now embarked on a programme of heart screening in local schools with a large number of pupils already screened.

A number of these screenings have identified potential problems which have been successfully treated.

Screening works and it IS vitally important.

A simple ECG trace

What is an ECG Test?

An Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test which looks at the electrical conduction pathways around the heart.

Small stickers known as electrodes are placed on the client’s chest and the wires from the electrodes connected to an ECG machine whilst you lie still .

A printout of the heart’s electrical activity is obtained for evaluation by the cardiologist.

The test is painless, non-invasive and takes just a few minutes to perform.

The Cazfest Curriculum

Increasingly, schools are teaching and discussing values and life skills through Assemblies, Citizenship, PSHE and Religious Studies. What better way to learn of the values of citizenship, community, compassion, care and collaboration than through the ultimate fun, family friendly, local event which is putting Bishop's Stortford on the national and international map?

The Cazfest curriculum is a series of lessons and/or assembly resources which use Cazfest as a case study for the exploration of issues related to Citizenship, PSHE and Religious Studies. Through these lessons students develop a knowledge, understanding and evaluation of social, moral, spiritual and cultural issues.
